Winter swimming has been on the surface a lot lately. Many people swear by swimming in the open, and others even consider it the secret to longevity and health.

According to research, regular open-mouth swimming, among other things, improves blood circulation, lowers basic blood pressure, and boosts tissue metabolism. For others, open swimming is also a way to relieve stress and calm down. However, you shouldn’t jump into the cold water head on, but you can get used to it little by little and start moving with quick spurts of a couple of seconds.

In Hamina, since the end of last year, you have been able to try winter swimming in the swimming hall as well: We delivered a 12.5 meter long pool for cold swimming to the outdoor section of Hamina’s Fortress swimming hall, which was completed in November. The pool is supposed to be open almost all year round. In winter, the water temperature in the outdoor pool is around +10 °C, in summer the pool is heated to +25 °C.
